James Smith Got Excited About Doors… Yes, Our Doors.
Let’s be honest, doors aren’t usually the hottest topic on YouTube. But when bestselling author and internet sensation James Smith decides to review your website and starts getting genuinely excited about your product… well, that’s something worth shouting about.
“I never in a million years thought I’d be getting excited about arriving on a page that promotes doors… but now I’m questioning everything.”
— James Smith, YouTube
That’s right, DavesDoors.co.uk got the James Smith treatment
What Happened?
In one of his recent YouTube videos, James reviews businesses and websites submitted by followers. He landed on ours and what followed was equal parts hilarious, insightful, and actually quite moving (well, for us anyway).
He liked the customisation, loved the niche, and admitted that we made him rethink whether he even deserved his current front door. We’ll take that.
He even said:
“This looks [expletive] cool. Your website’s sick. Your offering’s sick. I’m buzzing about this.”
We’re not crying. You’re crying.
But Wait, There’s More…
James also pointed out some golden advice we’re absolutely taking on board. Like:
-
Start telling stories: Show the transformation of doors from naff to beautiful.
-
Use reels: Short, satisfying videos of installations and upgrades are perfect for social media.
-
Speak human: No more assuming everyone knows what "composite" or "engineered hardwood" means.
-
Before-and-after is king: it’s not just a door, it’s a glow-up.
His advice? “Every single job is a story you can tell.”
Oof. That’s getting painted on the wall of our office.
Why This Matters (And Why We’re Sharing It)
It’s easy to get lost in the noise of big brands, flashy ads, and mass-produced products. But when a well-known voice gives a shout-out to a small, family-run UK door business for doing things properly.... it reminds us what this is all about.
✅ Craftsmanship
✅ Straight-talking service
✅ National delivery
✅ Doors that make you feel something. (Yes, really.)

Transcript - What was discussed...
We’ve got Dave’s Doors. We’re starting right from the beginning. Today is the 26th of June. For the next couple of days on TikTok Shop, there’s nearly a third off all Neutonic products and TikTok pay for that, not us.
Okay… Dave’s Doors.
I never in a million years thought I’d be getting excited about arriving on a page that promotes doors. But you know what? This is one of those things, until I saw your page, I’d never even thought about the fact that my front door is fully customisable. I’ve never looked at my house and gone, “Is that the door I want? Is that the door that I deserve?”
And now you’ve got me questioning everything. Fantastic. What a niche. I’m so happy you’re here.
I’ll bring my own personal anecdote into this. The first day I moved into my house, I got rid of the lock and put a keypad entry. At university, I hated having to carry a key. I’ve always disliked the idea that if you lose a bit of metal, you lose access to your house. So now.... keypad on the front door. Never need to worry. My cleaners have their own code, anyone coming round gets a code. And the smart thing is, if someone gives that code away, I can see exactly which one was used and trace it back.
Back to Dave and his doors. wow, Love this!
I reckon I’m only two or three pieces of content away from thinking, “We need new doors. We need a new front door.” I might already be there.
Nationwide UK delivery, door suppliers and installers.
Now, looking here these reels are non-existent. If I was you, Dave, this is the biggest thing I can tell you: you need to start posting reels. The pictures are great, but we’re missing one thing, the transformative process...
Everything is a story.
Let’s imagine this gym for instance. It starts as an empty industrial space. You record that. Then bit by bit, equipment comes in, flooring, lighting, desks, and over time it becomes something incredible. That’s a story.
When people see a story, they think about themselves. It’s the same with weight loss, the same with bathroom renovations. People don’t care about someone else’s result, they imagine their own.
And I’m doing that right now looking at your page.
If you show me what a door looked like before and then afterwards, we get that transformation. Even in a 10-second reel that’s enough. No complex structure needed. Just: here’s a bad door, here’s a beautiful one.
Right now, you’re only showing the “after”, not the “before”.
And most of your customers are replacing old doors so show that journey.
Every job you do is a story. People will follow you because it’s satisfying to watch. I follow accounts for things I’ve never done in my life, tiling, driveways, just because it’s transformative. You watch it and get hooked.
That’s the opportunity here.
Reels are the best place to do it because video wins. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Arrive on site, film the door, film the handle, get some sound, show the process. Maybe there’s a problem, the door doesn’t fit, needs sanding, needs adjusting. That’s even better.
We love to see conflict and resolution.
That shows your skill. It shows your competence.
Now I want to know about styles, colours, weather impact... all of it!
This is such an opportunity. I don’t know anyone else doing this. Daves Doors! Great name, great brand.
Now we get to your website.
It’s a generic website which is fine. But “Design your very own bespoke composite door”… I don’t know what composite means. Either I’m an idiot, or you’re talking in industry language.
Talk to me like I’m a customer.
Instead of “composite door”, just say “design your own door”. Keep it simple.
People don’t understand jargon. It loses them instantly.
That said, your website is great, your offering is great, everything here is strong.
Your socials are weak! And that’s good news. Because it means opportunity.
128 posts… and every single job could be content. Every install could be before-and-after. Every team member could capture content on site.
Video will outperform images because reels get pushed.
When people are scrolling at night, half asleep that’s where they discover this stuff. That’s where you plant the seed.
"Dave, I’m excited for you. This is a huge opportunity."
